Key Leadership traits for millennials

2017….We are more excited than ever about making this our most effective year and sharing the journey with you!! As we grow as a leadership blog we have decided to share 5 crucial leadership traits that we think every millennial needs to equip themselves with in order to thrive.

  1. Vision                                                                                                                                                             In order to thrive as a leader you need to work on answering three everyday questions: What do you want to achieve? When and How? The best way to do this is to write it down. Simplify your actions into basic steps and begin to tackle them one by one. Scripture teaches that “…people perish from a lack of knowledge.” Nothing could be more accurate. In order for us to know where we are going we need to do more than develop our own plans, we need to study and master the path we want to take. Learn from other people and that way we can strengthen our personal strategy.2. Innovation

Evolve, evolve, evolve. In the world we live in nothing is more essential than being able to activate our creativity and to proactively churn our different ideas. The key thing to note is that our ideas do not have to be perfect. They simple have to be authentic and honest. This way we are empowered to accept criticism, improve and keep moving forward no matter what challenges may come our way.

    3. Be able to feel fear and do it anyway

Yes this quote is from the book by Susan Jeffers by the same title. Millennial leaders are aware of oncoming challenges and obstacles but are courageous enough to try anyway. Taking action even and especially when we are frightened, rids our fears of their power and returns the power to take action back into our hands.

    4. Be willing to fail

Failure is not a determinant of who we are or where we will end up. It does not define us and rather is one simple tool we can use to improve ourselves. If we never fail, then we never grow and so we actively encourage failing for as long as it is never the endpoint. Keep trying. Don’t give up and be willing to shake off the roadblocks of life. Fortunately for us success is a product of many failed attempts. So don’t fear failure, rather fear being paralysed by a fear of failure which will ultimately withhold your success.

    5. Adaptive Resilience

Be willing to adapt and be strong. In order to lead as a millennial understand that there will be many people who will undermine you, question and ridicule you. Wherever you are, adapt to your environment and conquer it. Adapt without conforming and press forward with an unstoppable resilience.
